It is with deep sorrow that we honor the life and service of Police Officer Jesus “Chuchi” Garcia of the Guttenberg Police Department, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and the communities he dedicated his life to serving.
Officer Garcia proudly devoted his career to protecting and serving the Fairview and Guttenberg communities. Throughout his tenure, he exemplified courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to duty, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and residents alike. As commander of the Guttenberg Police Department Honor Guard and a valued member of the Special Response Team, he set the highest standards for service and integrity, leaving a lasting impact on the department and the broader law enforcement community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Officer Garcia was a trusted friend and mentor to many within the law enforcement family, including officers from neighboring North Bergen. His dedication to fostering strong relationships and his willingness to support fellow officers strengthened the bonds across multiple departments, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and camaraderie that defined his career.
In 2021, Officer Garcia was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), a challenge he met with remarkable courage and resilience. Even while confronting a serious illness, he remained a source of inspiration to those around him, facing each day with dignity, strength, and unwavering resolve. His perseverance, grace, and dedication to duty, even in the face of adversity, serve as a profound example of the values and character that define true public service.
The Guttenberg Police Department, along with colleagues, friends, and the wider community, mourns his loss while honoring the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of bravery, loyalty, and selfless service. Officer Garcia’s contributions to law enforcement and his commitment to protecting the community will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 PM at Barroquin Funeral Home.
