Dr. Kluger was a beloved husband, father, brother, physician, and friend whose life was defined by compassion, intellectual curiosity, a deep commitment to Judaism, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

For twenty-five years, Dr. Kluger served the Peninsula community as an Infectious Disease physician, first in private practice and later with Riverside Medical Group. A dedicated and respected clinician, he trained at Baylor College of Medicine, New York University, Bellevue Hospital, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, bringing exceptional expertise and heartfelt empathy to every patient he cared for. Colleagues consistently praised his patience, humility, and willingness to listen—qualities that made him a trusted mentor as well as a skilled healer. Many recall how he took time to answer questions thoughtfully, guide less experienced providers, and offer support with kindness and respect. The Riverside community notes that his loss is immeasurable, leaving a void that will be deeply felt by patients and practitioners alike.

Beyond his distinguished medical career, Dr. Kluger lived a life rich with passion and curiosity. A dedicated beekeeper for more than two decades, he tended hives he built by hand and delighted in sharing stories about his bees—often with a quiet smile that reflected his genuine joy. His steady presence at Rodef Sholom Temple’s morning minyan reflected his commitment to faith, community, and tradition.

Above all, Dan cherished his family. Despite demanding work and extra weekend shifts, he prioritized time with his wife, Beth, and their children, Sam and Pearl. He was immensely proud of the people they have become. Extended family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving with the Kluger relatives, were occasions he looked forward to with heartfelt enthusiasm. He embraced Beth’s family as his own and nurtured deep bonds across generations.

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Dr. Kluger was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Jean and Jacob N. Kluger, and his nephew, Aryeh. He is survived by his beloved wife Beth; their children, Sam and Pearl; his brothers and sisters-in-law Larry and Josie, Leo and Karin, and Avram and Dana; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Alessandra was known for her warmth, resilience, and deeply compassionate spirit—qualities that touched countless lives and defined the love she poured into her family, friendships, and community. Her passing has created an irreplaceable void, leaving those who knew her struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of a woman remembered for her kindness, patience, and unwavering devotion as a mother and loved one.

Alessandra’s legacy is one of generosity, empathy, and quiet strength. Friends and family describe her as a source of comfort and encouragement—someone who consistently extended grace, understanding, and positivity, even in challenging moments. As those closest to her gather to reflect on her life, they are united in honoring the profound impact she had on others, as well as the love she carried so openly for the people around her.

The tragic circumstances surrounding her death have shaken the Greensboro community. On November 22, 2025, police responded to a report of a family disorder at her Creekwood Drive residence, where they encountered an armed individual later identified as Paul Arthur Merchant, 62. Officers were met with gunfire, prompting a large-scale response that included patrol units, the Special Response Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Violent Crime Response Team, and multiple emergency support agencies. After extensive negotiations, a juvenile was safely released from the home—an outcome for which the community is profoundly grateful. When officers later entered the residence, both Alessandra and Paul Merchant were found deceased from gunshot wounds in what investigators have identified as a murder-suicide.

While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities have confirmed that all involved individuals have been identified and no suspects remain outstanding. Through the chaos and heartbreak of that night, Alessandra’s final moments underscore both the fragility of life and the urgent importance of community support and awareness surrounding family violence.

Today, as Greensboro mourns its 34th homicide of 2025, we pause to honor Alessandra’s life with dignity and respect. May her memory be a source of comfort to her family, especially to the child who was safely brought out of harm’s way, and may her spirit continue to inspire compassion, resilience, and unity within the community she leaves behind.
